We got up around 7 and got ready. Kelvin made us fancy coffee and steel cut oats for breakfast. I enjoyed looking through the scope at the seals.

We left around 9:00 to hike up Chuckanut Mountain near their house. Penny, their toy Australian Shepherd, came with us. She is really well-behaved and could walk off-leash. I enjoyed seeing the large pine trees and ferns as we hiked. There were many leaves that had been eaten by caterpillars in a smiley face design.

When we got to the top, there was a lake up there. Penny was allowed to get in and swim. We ate the delicious lunch that Sandra had packed for us: egg salad sandwiches, blueberries, chips, and meat/cheese roll-ups. It was a beautiful place to eat. When we finished, we walked around the lake before heading back down.

When we got home, we had some down time. We did laundry. It was so fantastic to have clean clothes again! I worked on my blog and texted my family. We went out on the deck and had a mid-afternoon snack of Roibos tea and Aussie bites. The view from their deck is incredible.

Sandra took Tammy and me to Fair Haven, a cute little town nearby. We walked around and looked at the shops and then we got ice cream. Tammy and Sandra had affogatos, which was vanilla bean ice cream with espresso poured on top. Next we went to the boardwalk. We walked on the boardwalk and saw many boats. We saw two men in a tiny plastic boat. They also had a backpack and a cooler in there. They were taking on water and trying to paddle to shore. They made it, but it looked very funny. We saw an otter swimming in the water. When we walked back, Sandra pointed to a cove and said, “Let’s look for the otter here. If I were an otter, this is where I’d go.” Amazingly, she spotted the otter. We watched it and realized it had a baby otter with it. They went into the rocks next to the water. We kept watching and they came back out. The mom swam away and the baby started chirping and crying for her before going into the rocks again. It kept chirping and I said, “Wouldn’t it be cool if the mom caught a fish to bring back for the baby?” A minute later, mom appeared with a big fish in her mouth. She took it into the rocks and the baby stopped chirping immediately.

We went back to the house and got ready for dinner. We had a delicious salad with a charcuterie board with several kinds of crackers, cheese, veggies, and hummus. After dinner, we watched The Darkest Hour, a movie about Winston Churchill. It was really good. We had chocolate and hot tea. Penny sat near me for part of the movie. She is a sweet dog and very fluffy and soft. After the movie, we went to bed.
